SALARY RANGE: $5,439 to $8,492 Monthly
Under minimal supervision: to perform a variety of semi-complex accounting functions in connection with the processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll in support of District financial, accounting, and related administrative functions; to maintain the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers through posting and reconciliation; may prepare financial reports and statements; to assist with performance audits of District functions and services; to assist with internal control reviews; and to do related work as required.
Incumbents perform the full range of accounting functions with minimal supervision and training. They may also provide coordination, work direction, and training for less experienced staff.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
- May organize and coordinate daily accounting functions and assignments.
- Assists in setting up accounts for general ledger posting.
- Audits invoices for proper extensions.
- Allocates purchases to proper accounts.
- Researches information and makes adjustments to financial and statistical information.
- Maintains subsidiary ledgers.
- Verifies coding of cash receipts and other documents.
- Operates computerized fiscal record keeping and management information systems.
- Analyzes original documents and prepares journal entries.
- Reviews accumulated accounting adjustments and makes correcting entries at month end.
- Monitors cash accounts and records monthly disbursements.
- May perform bank reconciliations.
- Reviews allocation journals for validity, accuracy, and proper allocation of control accounts.
- Assists with the preparation of financial statements and reports.
- May prepare quarterly payroll taxes and year-end reports.
- Assists in closing and adjusting journals and ledgers each fiscal year-end.
- Performs special analytical studies as directed by the Director of Finance and/or Accounting Manager.
- May provide training for other accounting support staff.

Any combination of education and experience which would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
- 4 - 5 years experience in computerized accounting with exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll tax reporting.
- Experience in municipal accounting, with some knowledge of interchanging funds and construction cost accounting highly desirable.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical.
- Valid California Driver's License - Class "C". Must maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by the District's insurance carrier.
- Telephone in service at all times.
- Reliable personal transportation.
The purveyance of water is a vital service to the community and as such requires the availability of District personnel at all times. Consequently, Accounting employees, including the Senior Accountant, will be required to respond to emergency calls, accept periodic overtime assignments, and perform any and all other duties deemed necessary by the District.
