San Jose Water is recruiting for an Associate Engineer, Asset Management. Under the general direction of the Engineering Supervisor, Asset Management, the Associate Engineer, Asset Management is responsible for assisting with the development, implementation, and ongoing application of an enterprise wide Asset Management Program that optimizes cost, level of service, and risk.
This position is distinguished by his/her responsibility to both support and lead asset management related initiatives, analyses, and programs and to effectively manage multiple tasks which involve coordination and communication with professional staff in various departments. The incumbent is relied upon to provide sound engineering and asset management recommendations related to the planning, design, operation, and oversight of the Company’s water distribution system. Duties require the frequent use of initiative, independent judgment, and interdisciplinary team work involving contractors, consultants, and other personnel within and outside the Company.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in the development of risk-based capital and O&M strategies and contribute significantly to the development of Asset Management Plans; collaborate with other departments regarding the operation, rehabilitation, repair, and replacement of utility assets based on business risk exposure; review and evaluate procedures and help develop, recommend, and maintain efficient workflow processes; support the enterprise wide Asset Management Program based on preventative maintenance studies, risk studies, levels of service studies, and tactical asset management plans; conduct field inspections and evaluate performance data for system infrastructure including pipelines, wells, booster pumps, reservoirs, and other assets; assist in reliability engineering efforts for asset and station designs; participate as a key member of the asset management committee; and perform special projects and written reports as required.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (from an accredited school) or equivalent in Civil Engineering or an approved related field. Three to five years of professional engineering work experience related to water or wastewater systems and facilities, including two years in the area of asset management. Position requires California State Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer. A Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Business, or Public Administration and possession of a recognized asset management certification is highly desirable.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Extensive technical knowledge of the principles of asset management as applied to a water utility; experience interfacing with databases, Computerized Maintenance Management Software platforms, and GIS; extensive technical knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering; general knowledge of applicable regulatory codes and standards governing the design, construction, and operation of investor owned water utilities. Strong written and effective oral communication skills are required.
Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
